"In 1848, Mexico lost the war," said David A. Lopez, a sociologist at California State University, Northridge, who studies Latino issues. "But in 2050, Mexico will have reclaimed what was rightfully theirs."

Mexico and Mexicans
I enjoy reading your news. For the moment, I live here in Mexico. Believe me, you don't want this screwed-up, inefficient culture imported to the United States. These people have no sense of punctuality, and they keep cranking out babies, insuring that there country will always be a third-world backwater and a source of cheap labor. [Also see this item]

Re: Council calls for immigrant rights
Makes me want to holler. The L.A. City Council's desire to harbor and abet the continued presence of illegal immigrants is a slap in the face of everything American. People can only live with dignity if they obey the laws of this nation and those include immigration laws.

Orwellian antics
Here are two current news stories that just don't jibe: a bunch of Mexican citizens all over the East Coast are busted for importing cocaine, and the Bush administration no longer sees the need to monitor Mexico's drug enforcement efforts.

Re: Jorge Boooosh
This is about the big cocaine bust in New Bedford, Mass. Hey! Somebody please send that story to Jorge Boooosh! That's a sample of what his beloved "amigos" from Mexico will be smuggling in their trucks as they invade our highways. Isn't NAFTA wonderful? --- H.P.

Homeland Security Update

Lonely border crossing a bit more secure
...In a nervous new world on the 49th Parallel of Level 1 alerts and, very soon, uniformed troops, Nighthawk seems almost the border crossing that time forgot. It is one of many isolated crossings, some of which are secured at night with nothing more than an orange traffic cone, on a porous, 4,000- mile border. Drugs, guns and illegal immigrants slip over the border in both directions. Terrorists could, too.
