Anti-Immigrant Policy Produces Australian Election Triumph
Australia's national election has produced a shattering victory for the governing coalition dominated by the Liberal party led by John Howard. His third victory in a row, the largest swing to an existing government in 35 years, and quite unexpected six months ago. He did it by attacking immigrants. -- Not just immigration: immigrants. Howard's previous weakness on the issue had encouraged a "Camp of the Saints" type invasion of Boat People. To the surprise of many observers Howard defended his country, which rallied to him. Australia's political elite is chewing this over thoughtfully.

Illegal alien driver's license bill appears to be dead
An article published in a Los Angeles Spanish-language newspaper (roughly translated here by Alta Vista) appears to indicate that the reconquista bill that would have allowed certain illegals to get California driver's licenses is dead, this in spite of vigorous efforts of MALDEF push it through on a technicality. Click here to view the article in La Opinion (Spanish).

White Voters Walking Out on Democrats
The city's Democratic Party has a problem: White flight. -- Whites voted for Michael Bloomberg in droves on Tuesday - the fourth consecutive mayoral election in which the Republican received more white votes than the Democrat. -- The shift of white voters - many of them Democrats - has breathed new life into the city's Republican Party, at least in mayoral elections...

Mexican consulates face deluge seeking ID cards
Anxious about the faltering U.S. economy and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Mexicans are queuing up in record numbers outside Bay Area consulates, seeking a government ID card that will allow them to return to their native land. -- "A lot of people are getting scared because of terrorists,'' said Pedros Beltran, 31, of Fremont, as he stood outside the San Francisco consulate on Market Street. "And a lot of people are losing jobs, especially the factories.''

Re: Orange Co. cops not to be trusted
...Light has to be shone on these un-American creeps. Anyone who respects these phonies or trusts them to uphold the law, is just plain stupid.

Anti-immigrant reaction feared following attacks
...The same trend holds nationally, said Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. "We have seen real efforts by anti-immigrant groups to recruit people by pushing this [attack] as somehow blamable on legal and illegal immigrants," he said in a telephone interview. -- The California Coalition for Immigration Reform, for example, recently ran this headline: "The blood of our citizens. ... Immigration policy paved the way for the Sept. 11 attack."

Re: 91 and willing to stand up for America
Yes, I would be interested in a protest rally. I have lived in Orange County all my life (91 years) and seen it change from an all white area to one where Latinos dominate, as in Santa Ana, Anaheim, and now parts of Fullerton. --Larry M.

Re: OC police chiefs meeting in secret and deciding to accept Mexican ID's
How come you are going along with lawlessness? We law abiding citizens depend on you to keep law and order and to protect us. Why are you accepting Mexican ID cards for illegal aliens?

Re: OC police chiefs meeting in secret and deciding to accept Mexican ID's
To some of us who have been watching the situation in OC, it was no surprise that the police chiefs of OC have voted in secret to accept Mexiscam ID's. Many of these chiefs are right out of the mold of the corrupt Alabama police chiefs of legend.

Last Monday, two green-card aliens living in Brownsville, Texas, were sentenced to 27 and 33 months without parole respectively - in the latest group of related cases involving corrupt fedcops choosing to make the Mexican border porous in exchange for bribes at the same time that liberals in Congress say that only by making airport screeners federal employees can public safety be assured.

Our Neighbors Have Some Hard Words for Us. Are We Listening?
...Anti-American sentiment here rises from the Mexican soil almost as effortlessly as the corn that grows nearly everywhere. It's been that way for more than 150 years, since -- as every Mexican is taught in school -- the United States took half of Mexico's territory, putting Texas and California on their current side of the border. -- In this village, and in hundreds like it, the United States has come to represent all the world's wealth, all the heartless big business and what they see as the strangling tentacles of U.S.-led economic globalization.

Re: Locals Plan Appeal to Musharraf
First we have the illegal Mexican immigrants telling us how to run our country, now we have the illegal Pakistan immigrants telling us how to run our immigration. That's what we get for having "multiculturalism." These folks are convinced that they have the right to be in the U.S. Foreigners don't have a right to be in our country legally or illegally.

Locals Plan Appeal to Musharraf
Pakistani immigrants have been living in fear of arrest by federal agents and of bias assaults following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. -- They say they want General Pervez Musharraf, who arrived in New York Friday for a series of high- level talks, to tell President George W. Bush that it is unfair to arrest Pakistani immigrants for visa violations and to allow them to be victims of bias violence when Pakistan is the United States' best ally...
