Br'er Obama
Rubio is setting us up
Talking Points Memo -- February 14
White House: Rubio's Secure Border Trigger Isn't 'Non-Negotiable'
"Roast me! Hang me! Do whatever you please," said Brer Rabbit. "Only please, Brer Fox, please don't throw me into the briar patch." ...
President Obama may not be the biggest fan of Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) much-promoted plan to delay a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants until the southern border is officially certified as secure, but an administration official said Thursday that the inclusion of such a "trigger" wouldn't necessarily wreck a final deal.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest gave a flat "no" to reporters on Air Force One when asked Thursday if keeping reforms detached from a trigger was "non-negotiable point," but stopped far short of endorsing the idea.
"No, it's the view of the President that border security should be part of fixing our broken immigration system," Earnest said. "But the other thing that should be part of that is a clear path to citizenship. And that's what we're working on."

"Br'er Rabbit is a trickster who succeeds by his wits rather than by brawn, tweaking authority figures and bending social mores as he sees fit."
This scam by Senator Rubio is just another set up --- just as was the Secure Fence Act of 2006 --- which was passed to convince voters that the border would be secured so amnesty would pass the next year. When amnesty didn't pass, the fence was scuttled --- and it would have been anyway.
Just like Br'er rabbit, Obama is fighting against the border security trigger, knowing full well that if we grant legal status before the border is secured, it never will be and we eventually have to grant citizenship to everyone.
