Origin of Monument Fire remains a mystery (Subscription)
   Bisbee, Az. -- The Monument Fire was human caused, but the person who started it and where exactly it began still remain points of contention.
    This wildfire, which started on June 12 and was contained on June 26, burned about 30,500 acres. It destroyed or damaged nearly 70 structures and forced the evacuation of nearly 12,000 people.
    In mid-June during a press conference, Sen. John McCain claimed illegal immigrants were to blame for starting some of the wildfires that were burning around Arizona at the time, including the Monument Fire. [...]

    "So I am left with the conclusion that the person who stared the fire did so in Mexico and remained in Mexico long after the fire started. This means that the fore was not started by an illegal alien; nor was the perpetrator chased by the U.S. Border Patrol," he continued.
    Spencer said the confusion arises when someone claims the fires was stared by an "illegal alien" -- forgetting that someone in Mexico, no matter how close to the border the person might be, is not an "illegal alien." Read entire story
