Arpaio's border tea party 'against recommendations from his staff'
Joe Arpaio is headed south for tea.
The Maricopa County sheriff will address a "large crowd of tea partiers" at high noon on Sunday near the border.
Read on for the whole news release from the sheriff's office, which no doubt sent the notice reluctantly. But their boss isn't scared, as his career has taken him all over the Southwest and Mexico as a DEA agent.
Phoenix -- After serving for years as the top federal official assigned in Mexico, South America, Texas, and Arizona for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, 17-year Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will return to the U.S.-Mexican border to address a large crowd of tea partiers to discuss issues with illegal immigration and the border.
Sheriff Arpaio says, "Many politicians have recently visited and used the U.S.-Mexican border as a photo opportunity to take advantage of the recent debate over illegal immigration. I on the other hand have lived in the region and have worked against the drug smugglers firsthand with the federal government."
The Sheriff is scheduled to make a return to the border this Sunday August 15th at 12:00 noon to appear before a large crowd in conjunction with the United Border Coalition Tea Party to speak about the illegal immigration and issues with the border.
American Patrol Report Comment
In addition to federal, state and local law enforcement presence, American Border Patrol's Cessna TU-206 will be providing aerial "top cover" of today's border event. "Our crew will be looking for anything unusual on either side of the border," said Glenn Spencer, head of ABP. Spencer said the rally site has extensive government and private security systems in place.
