The Failure of NAFTA
The House That Rahm Built
|American Patrol Report -- January 3
NAFTA failed Mexico. According to the New York times, a new report by the Carnegie Endowment for International Piece sites several reasons for this failure. "Foreign companies that invested in Mexico did not source from Mexico..."
Eleven years ago Jock O'Connell reported that Maquiladoras plants placed along the border were entrepots; places where we send machines and parts to be assembled by cheap Mexican labor. Other than cheap labor, Mexico provided less than 2% of the items used in those plants.
NAFTA failed the U.S. NAFTA was sold as a means of reducing illegal immigration. None other than California Gov. Jerry Brown said that NAFTA would draw people north to the Maquiladora plants where they would jump the border. That's exactly what happened. Those of us who fought NAFTA fifteen years ago have been proven right. Watch this segment on NAFTA from our ten-year-old video and see we were right on every account! (Ten years later the geniuses at Carnegie reached the same conclusion!)
We have said for years that NAFTA should have concentrated on Southern Mexico where the people with the greatest need and natural resources are not the barren desert along the border.
One thing NAFTA did do was to create billionaires like Carlos Slim who can help bailout the stupid New York Times.
And who was the chief architect of NAFTA? Rahm Emanuel, Obama's Chief of Staff.

2010 will be worse
The year 2010 is likely to be the pivotal year where pundits stop referring to the recession and begin openly talking about a depression. -- Our economic problem is rather simple to describe: There is too much debt relative to income and/or wealth. Below is a single graph that depicts the condition of our economy...

Phoenix still the kidnap capital of the country
On Saturday night, Phoenix police found a dozen illegal aliens being held for ransom in a house near 51st Avenue and Encanto. Many of them showed signs of torture. -- The night before, it was Phoenix firefighters who were called to the same address to put out a shed fire, where some of the kidnapping victims were being held...

Who needs help -- illegals or America?
While the health care fiasco, underwear bomber and antics of Tiger Woods distracted Americans, a piece of controversial legislation was introduced to the House of Representatives. Like most of the Democrats' legislation, it requires scrutiny as it ignores the will of the majority of Americans...

Congress should not scrap 287(g)
Questionable moves are being made on high, and Prince William County may suffer as a result. A bill introduced in Congress Dec. 15 would kill the county's 287(g) program while bolstering other areas of immigration enforcement, such as border security...
Tracing the origins of the Gulf Cartel empire
Ronald Reagan was in the White House. "Eye of the Tiger" was playing on the radio. Cocaine cowboys roamed Miami. -- And the seeds for what would become perhaps the largest and most powerful crime syndicate in the hemisphere were quietly being sown in Houston...

Under-reported stories of 2009
...Let's start with President Obama's ongoing radical czar problem. Until Bay Area Marxist agitator-turned-green jobs czar Van Jones resigned in September, most Americans hadn't heard of him. Mainstream newspaper readers and network news viewers were left in the dark about his cop-killer-supporting activism...

Obama: AWOL in Iran crisis
It is now abundantly and painfully clear that President Obama is clueless about America's national security interests in this dangerous world. -- Obama is playing golf in Hawaii as the Islamist regime in Tehran shoots protesters in the streets and admits it has beaten to death scores of other protesters taken to jail...
Here's Your 'Change': Poverty growing in Texas schools
Almost six out of 10 Texas public schoolchildren hail from low-income families, marking a troubling spike in poverty over the last decade, a new state report finds. -- The increase coincides with a significant jump in the number of Hispanic students, while fewer Anglo students were enrolled last year than 10 years ago...
Chicago immigration agency a front for terror plot, federal probers allege

The real war
Had he not proven incompetent to detonate his lap bomb, Umar Farouk Abdulmullatab would have carried off an air massacre to rival Lockerbie. We would all have ended Christmas day watching TV footage of 300 mangled bodies being picked up around Detroit...

Don't follow California's path to ruin
The U.S. economy survived the traumas of 2009, thanks to good policy and good luck. What worries me, looking ahead, is what might be called the "Californiaization" of America the growing tendency of our political system to make promises in social spending programs that it isn't prepared to pay for with tax increases... Pollyanna MSM quick to defend Napolitano and Obama
Although I should've expected it, I'm afraid I have to admit that the mainstream media's passionate defense of Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano took me by surprise. -- I especially expected better from New York Times columnist David Brooks as much of a centrist as they come and Washington Post columnist David S. Broder.... [See Obama Watch]
