GOP,
Giuliani see edge on immigration issue
One is Sen. Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic
contender for president. In a recent debate, she stumbled over
a question about driver's licenses for "undocumented workers"
and eventually endorsed the idea, providing a clear line
of attack for Giuliani.

Immigration
tearing away at Democrats
The party's calibration could also be seen in
New York, where a number of Democrats won local elections in
part by opposing a plan by Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer to issue
driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and in the presidential
campaign, in which party front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham
Clinton has struggled to explain whether she supports the Spitzer
plan or not.

The
Dems' immigration dilemma
For the past year or so, the Republicans
handed the Democrats a gift that kept on giving: immigration
reform. The GOP was divided-with the president standing firmly
against most of his party, calling for a "path to citizenship"-as
the Democrats watched the squabbling from the sidelines. Even
more to the point, they were absolutely delighted... |
