Presidential Radio Address - Oct. 22, 2005
In
Focus: Homeland Security
"For the past four years, we've been implementing
this strategy. To stop illegal immigrants from coming across
our borders, we've added manpower, upgraded our technology, and
taken the final steps necessary to complete a 14-mile
barrier running along the San Diego border with Mexico." Time
Magazine - September 20, 2004
Who
Left the Door Open?
"Despite all the talk of homeland security,
sneaking into the U.S. is scandalously easy--and on the rise.
Millions of illegal aliens will pour across the U.S.-Mexican
border this year..." A group of invaders passed within 1/4 mile of my home
this morning. How can the President deliver this radio address
with a straight face? Bush
is an embarrassment.-- Glenn Spencer |

"They are panicking, and I'm panicking
because I don't understand what they are saying," Kirven
said. -- To handle all the different languages spoken in North
Texas, 911 operators would need to speak more than 100 languages.
-- Now, Lancaster and other cities are solving that problem by
hooking up with a California company... |

Bordering
on real action?
Do a country's borders show up on radar?
-- They do now, apparently: Everyone in Washington all of a sudden
knows where the U.S. southern border is. -- You can credit the
Minutemen with a lot of that. The volunteer group that staged
a citizen border-watch in Arizona earlier this year dramatized,
like no one before, the problems with America's porous border
- and the simplicity of the solution. |

Nebraska
congressman has own immigration scheme
Omaha, Neb. (AP) -- Joining his Nebraska
congressional colleagues in the search for solutions to U.S.
immigration problems, U.S. Rep. Tom Osborne's new bill would
require illegal immigrants to briefly return home before coming
back with new U.S. work visas. -- His guest worker proposal doesn't
lead to U.S. citizenship, but the new, so-called "W"
visas could be renewed indefinitely. |

Mesa
being colonized at record pace
Mesa has reached a tipping point. What
had been a gradual demographic shift has gained momentum over
the past decade, fueled by record immigration. -- One in four
Mesa residents now are Hispanic, up from one in 10 in 1990. If
the trend continues, the city will be majority Latino within
30 years. |

cheerleader Doug Duncan's end?
In announcing his bid for governor of
Maryland on Thursday, Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan
urged voters to "think bigger." Clearly Mr. Duncan
doesn't take his own advice, because he immediately went on a
small-minded attack to paint his highly popular opponent as a
dreamy idler. |

Use
enforcement to ease invader situation
That America has an illegal-immigration
problem is not in question. There are an estimated 10 million
to 12 million illegal aliens in the country, a number estimated
to grow by more than 400,000 a year. To deal with the problem
some advocate a mass amnesty coupled with increased legal immigration,
while others want mass deportations. |
