Immigration
And The Unmentionable Question Of Ethnic Interests
Arguments over immigration are usually
limited to cultural or economic factors. Political scientists
like Samuel Huntington point out that the culture of the country
will change dramatically if there is a continued influx of Spanish-speaking
immigrants. And economists like George Borjas have demonstrated
that large masses of newcomers depress wages... |

monitor Arizona's Prop. 200
Ben Monterroso, a Mexican-born labor

of California's Proposition 187, which once denied services to
illegal immigrants. Chris Watford, born and raised in Roswell,
is now an anti-immigration activist because of that same law's
legacy. -- Come Election Day, both will watch Arizonans vote

thinking it over.] [See

Prop 200 Returns to Earth
Bankrolled by their generous union treasury,
the SEIU union
filed two separate legal actions, first in Arizona Superior and

the complaints in mid-August, SEIU abandoned appeals to the AZ
Supreme Court. We haven't seen the last of them - they'll
resume their court antics after the initiative passes. |
