Glenn Spencer: "We're the compassionate ones. We have a technical solution to this which is going to be implemented. And what the reverend just said is that the Border Patrol would oppose us for putting sensors and detectors in there that would allow them to find these people, but then support a network that allows this kind of human trafficking to go on which brings in four billion dollars a year. Who is right in this instance?"

Immigration, oil, and Mexico
Mexican President Vicente Fox ruled out Sunday a proposal by U.S. lawmakers to make immigration reform dependent on the opening of Mexico's state-owned oil monopoly, Pemex, to U.S. investment. -- ''The negotiation of an immigration agreement between the United States and Mexico has been a priority since the beginning of President Vicente Fox's administration, but in no way will the negotiation of such an agreement be accepted in exchange for the opening of [PEMEX] to foreign investment,'' Fox's office said in a news release.AP Internal Use Only

Immigration Laws Vs. Traffic Regulations
I feel like Alice on the wrong side of the looking glass. I read in The Times that a coalition of churches is applying political pressure to the Anaheim Police Department to have a written policy of not inquiring about immigration status when a driver is stopped for a traffic violation and has no driver's license....AP Internal Use Only

New York's crisis hard to comprehend (for some)
...For years we have been fed with Orwellian bull of this kind. That diversity is strength. That multiculturalism is the best thing that ever happened to the American society. That poor (and mostly illegal) aliens from Third-World countries are the major driving force of American prosperity...

DREAM act rewards scofflaws who shouldn't be in U.S.
...Many Republicans and Democrats support the plan, saying it would provide a permanent fix to the dilemma facing thousands of undocumented children who grow up in the United States but can be deported even if they manage to earn a degree. -- "This is a strategic move, so amnesty can be expanded to millions of other illegal aliens," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies.AP Internal Use Only

Re Congressional resolution angers Mexicans
This new bill wants to exchange Mexican oil for the U.S. accepting Mexican poor people as legal immigrants. U.S. taxpayers of course will foot the bill, in order for rich U.S. oil investors to make their fortunes on Mexican oil. Predictably, the Mexicans are angry. They want to get rid of their poor people without any obligations to the U.S.

Meddling Mexicans: Lawmakers made two good choices
...For more than a year now, the Mexican government and a number of supporting U.S. organizations have been trying to erode, if not eliminate, the legal differences that distinguish a U.S. citizen from an illegal immigrant. These groups want to increase the importance of mere residency and reduce the importance of citizenship. [Also see: Mexican Meddling and Mexican Sham IDs]AP Internal Use Only

On water station issue, O'odham are unfairly maligned
The Tohono O'odham Nation has been wronged, again. First, Robin Hoover, in his April 27 Guest Opinion "An inhumane policy," publicly condemned the nation for not following his plan for placing migrant water stations on the nation's sovereign lands. -- Then the Star accepted as fact Hoover's allegations and called the nation's position "shameful" in its April 30 editorial "Death by reservation."AP Internal Use Only

Los Angeles County spent about $350 million last year providing health care to illegal immigrants, according to a report from the Department of Health Services. -- The money spent could have staved off massive cuts to the departments including the closure of 16 health clinics and possibly two hospitals, as well as slashes in services across the board, officials said Friday.
