Ears Up! -- Strange stuff is happening
Roger [Hedgecock] gets source info about last week's pick up truck load of illegals that crashed at the Descanso crossing of I-8. Nutball load driver at least stays on the westbound side of the hiway but loses control and so far we got two dead. But the story gets a little strange at the accident scene. Some guy from the Mexican consulate's office is on scene very pronto and some say he was wearing an INS I.D. badge.

Illegal with DUI record sentenced in crash-maiming (why was he even here?)
An illegal immigrant with repeated speeding tickets and license suspensions will spend three years in prison for a drinking-related crash that cost a pedestrian her legs. -- Jose Humberto Carcamo is a citizen of El Salvador who lived in Oakland County's Orion Township with his girlfriend and their child. -- He pleaded no contest Dec. 9 to felonious driving and causing a serious injury accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. -- The government says Carcamo is in the country illegally and has sought to deport him. Border report rational
...This writer has lived near the border for many years and owns substantial properties along this border. I find this wild criticism of the so-called "American Border Patrol," by those who are not in any way involved, to be unthinking and irrational. -- There was a day when, in my over 50 years here on the border, we sympathized with illegal immigrants passing by and offered nourishment and good wishes. -- However, having recently been chased by armed illegals, having been vandalized or burglarized several time.....

Consequences for enablers... and I buried the lead
California is facing a series of reality checks that could/would lead to catastrophic results. -- Many in other parts of the country say, "So what? The land of fruits and nuts deserves whatever they get." However, despite the regional immediacy, the success or failure of California WILL impact significantly on the rest of the country. -- Faced with a $36-Billion budget deficit of it's own making liberal California Democrats have positioned the state for a personification of "payback is a bitch". Washington Post Openly Discriminates Against American Workers!
Buddy and Shane Swing, founding members of fromthepen.com, a political and philosophical writers group, found out today that their discriminatory ad stating "undocumented immigrants only need apply" ran in the Sunday, 1/12/2003, classified jobs section of the Washington Post. It was run on page K12, 2nd column from the left, 3rd ad from the bottom....

Letters decry CongressMechista Grijalva
Actually, the racist U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., should be investigated for encouraging illegals to break U.S. law and he should be prosecuted for creating the atmosphere and opportunity for terrorists to breach our border and kill U.S. citizens. -- I look forward to seeing the racist Rep. Grijalva prosecuted under the Patriot Act and sent to prison.

Immigration and International Political Responsibility
A former diplomat and visa officer, I have been considering immigration questions for over 35 years. Over this period great changes have taken place in both the law and in the magnitude of immigration into the United States. Sept. 11 and Homeland Security have brought the situation into sharp focus. -- Indeed, the 2000 Census showed, I believe, our population to be some 7 million larger than estimated. Surprise, anyone?

Some Latinos fret INS split
Salinas, California -- ...There's a big bureaucratic change coming March 1, when the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service is folded into two agencies under the new Homeland Security Department. -- Some foresee longer waits, higher costs, more restrictions and, possibly, an upswing in local enforcement against illegal immigrants. -- U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, whose office has one of the heaviest immigration caseloads in Congress, said, "I'm very, very concerned about the breakup."

New scrutiny at the border
...On the surface, life in far northern New Hampshire continues just as it always has. But in the months since the Sept. 11 attacks, the government has gone to extraordinary lengths to increase security along the Canadian border. And in a variety of ways - some more intrusive than others - the government is making its presence increasingly known. --- ...When residents cross the Canadian border - and perhaps more important, when they return to the U.S. - they now face more scrutiny than ever before.

Why import more farm workers when we have too many?
Seeking "a more humane solution," as The Bee's editorial phrased it, to America's current immigration system is a worthwhile aim. Unfortunately, the editorial promoting a "guest-worker" program for agriculture works in the opposite direction. -- Cesar Chavez believed agribusiness' chief farm labor strategy for decades was maintaining a surplus labor supply to keep wages and benefits depressed, and fight unionization. It's simple economics. If there is too much of a product, that lowers its price.

Dismantle border, Canadian group advises
The Canadian Council of Chief Executives wants to dramatically remake Canada-U.S. relations, calling for the creation of a jointly managed North American perimeter [presumably including crime and corruption-bloated Mexico] with a common approach to borders, trade, immigration, security and defence. -- ''What we are really talking about is totally reinventing the border. The border should no longer been seen as a demarcation line between Canada and the United States. It should simply be an internal checkpoint,'' said Tom D'Aquino, president of the CCE, which represents Canada's 150 largest corporations.

Another Ariz. city accepts sham Mexican IDs, Mexican gloats
Somerton is the first city in Yuma County to provide public services to residents who display a new identification card that some said illegal immigrants will use to take advantage of the government. -- Mexican Consulate officials issue the card. "It's a gigantic step for the county," said Juan Gabriel Morales, deputy consul of Yuma. -- David Ray, a spokesman for the Washington, D.C.-based Federation for American Immigration Reform, opposes the card. "Local and state governments are intent on turning a blind eye to illegal immigration," he said.

Kidnappings rise as migrant smuggling gets lucrative
Phoenix -- Kidnappings of illegal migrants are rising in this city as the business of smuggling people across the U.S.-Mexico border gets more lucrative and violent, police say. -- After guiding clients through the southern Arizona desert, some smugglers who receive half their fee up front hold migrants captive until the remainder is paid. -- Migrant smugglers, known also as "coyotes," also steal their competitors' clients and hold them until family or friends pay ransoms. -- In other cases, smugglers squeeze families for money by randomly kidnapping illegal border-crossers already working in Arizona.

Raul Grijalva is an embarrassment
Raul Grijalva shows himself to be, at first opportunity, a man with little or no intellect and no shame, who chooses not to represent Arizona and the United States, but the illegal immigrants who are a plague, a threat and a burden to our state as well as our country. -- The fear on the border comes not from good citizens who are trying to do what our government has failed to do - secure our borders - but from the invasion into, and on, the land, homes and rights of those who live in proximity to Mexico.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Drug rings reach northwest Georgia
Dalton, Georgia - Jaime Peralta ran an operation that smuggled 30 pounds of methamphetamine into Dalton each month, but his story is less about one drug trafficker than it is about how authorities think northwest Georgia has become a drug wholesale hub. -- It is an uncomfortable picture for politicians and Chamber of Commerce types because police believe Peralta capitalized on some of the very attributes that have made this Whitfield County seat a model for integrating Latinos into daily life.

Howdy Doody ID Card Accepted Here
Just when you thought we were making strides in homeland security comes another frightening reminder of how little seriousness is being placed on monitoring those who enter our borders. Introducing the Howdy Doody ID card -- also known as the Matricula Consular card. -- The Matricula Consular (MC) card is not new, but it's gaining increased recognition as more and more politicians and citizens recognize how the MC card could be used by illegal aliens and potential terrorists to gain entry into America. Open Letter To Ashcroft About Immigration Law Enforcement
Dear Attorney General Ashcroft: Dear Attorney General Ashcroft: The time is fast approaching when you will surrender the Immigration and Naturalization Service the pride of the Justice Department to the new Department of Homeland Security. But take heart. -- You still control the one agency within the Department of Justice that is the power behind the scenes in immigration law enforcement - and also the greatest obstacle to real immigration reform in the federal government: the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).
