"La Politica Will Never be the Same"
Exiting. Ground braking. Phenomenal. The Latino Academy is more than a training program- it's sand experience.
June 12, 1997 marked the unveiling of a collaborative effort between SVREP and WCVI: The Latino Academy. The Latino Academy is and intensive five-day training session for all those who are interested in serving their communities as organizers, political candidates, and/or newly-elected local officials. our Stellar line-up provides participants with expert instruction on history and philosophy of Latino politics, practical organizing, campaign and governance skills, efficient resource allocation, and new policy options for current social and political issues. The academy serves not only to politically empower our community, it also delves into the core values of our community and reinforces the principles of ethics and accountability
The Latino Academy, in particular helps participants gain the political expertise that is crucial, social, and educational empowerment of our communities. This training program is beneficial to both novice and veteran organizers alike. It helps novice organizers develop the fundamental foundations for how to organize, motivate, and lead their communities. Similarly, it acquaints veterans organizers, candidates, and newly-elected local officials with organizational tactics, political strategies, and media relations. Furthermore, it helps participants hone and develop the skills they already possess and establish information channels through the Latino Academy Alumni Network.
Today, on the verge of what will be the third Latino Academy, the program is nothing short of exceptional. Imagine a great instructional line-up including the best minds in the business, a group of highly motivated peers, up-to-minute Latino instructional material, and world-class instructional facilities. This is only a peek onto the wealth of resources the Latino Academy offers its participants.
Although it was initially developed as an instructional training program for Latino youth, community organizers, candidates, and newly-elected local officials, the Academy has become more like a Latino think-tank. Increasingly, the Academy has become a means by which the Latino community and its experts in the political, organizational, and financial fields share their ideas and discuss issues in an educationally nurturing environment.
