Re: ID card idea attracts high-level support
Oct. 17, 2001, San Jose Mercury NewsThe nation needs a National Identity Card in order to be able to determine whether a person is in the country legally and, in fact is the person that is holding the card presented. There is no way to absolutely prevent it's being counterfeited, however, it is almost impossible to corrupt a verifying database. With over 9 million illegal aliens residing in the U.S., one can only wonder how many potential terrorists there are. If even the smallest percentage, the number would still be high. Since the terrorists responsible for the cowardly act that resulted in nearly 6,000 dead, were able to slip through a porous immigrant control system, it is high time for a more efficient means of identification.
