Re: Request for investigation

Letters to the Arizona Attorney General -- 4/8/03

Dear Mr. Goddard:

I understand that your office has been asked to investigate and prosecute members of American Border Patrol [by Border Action Network, or whatever name they are currently using]. I am a current Board Member of American Border Patrol.

All I have to say to any investigator is:

I cannot imagine what that 14 hours of pulmonary collapse must have been like for him-- very long, excruciating in fact!  It broke my heart and no one should have to go through such a situation with a loved one. He died shortly thereafter from pulmonary failure!

When I can rest assured that scenario will never happen to any citizen of the United States of America, I will know my work is done.

Caring for Dad and wanting to address the health care service crisis here in Arizona does not make me a cockroach, a vigilante or a militia person. Such labels don't apply to the distress and powerlessness I felt during Dad's health crisis (and death).

What happened to Dad was not right and I will not forget it. Instead, I will continue to be active in bringing the many issues of immigration into clearer and sharper focus, especially as it impacts our health care.

This issue of illegal immigration is unfortunately viewed as a polarized position between open border advocates and militiamen. This is an unfortunate and frankly unenlightened perception of hard working people like myself.

The issue of illegal immigration had a direct impact on my life. I would look forward to sharing my story with the State Legislature and Congress. My focus is education and health care reform as it pertains to the current crisis here in Arizona.

My activities have no resemblance to the kinds of activities that have been alleged in the report by the Border Action Network. I am no hero; I am also no hater. My father died due to an overwhelmed health care system in Phoenix and I don't want it to happen again!

All members of our American Border Patrol Board of Directors are top notch and very professional.

Respectfully,

Hannah K. Siegel
American Border Patrol Board Member

Letter to AZ Attorney General

4/8/03

Dear Attorney General Goddard:

I am Hispanic, I came to the U.S. as a LEGAL immigrant, I am a U.S. citizen and I am a supporting member of American Border Patrol. Please investigate me! I am a retired nurse, grandmother of one, I have been married for 48 years to the same man, I have raised three daughters, who hold BA and BS degrees and one who will be a veterinarian soon. I work very hard against illegal immigration and for legal immigration reform.

The volunteers by the border are interfering with the flow of drugs coming from Mexico. I have not heard the Border Alliance Network ever complain about the murder of Park Ranger Kris Eggle, the shootings by the border, the tons of marijuana brought in by illegals, the destruction of private property by illegals and the obliteration of the environment as thousands of feet every month trample through our desert and the garbage they leave behind. I feel those who are persecuting the volunteers by the border have drug connections. I think they should be investigated and not law abiding citizens.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Haydee Pavia
