Re: Slowdown's Silent Victims
Labor: Few laid-off hospitality workers qualify for government aid, and those who do--because they hold temporary work permits--won't apply. (Mary Cleeland - L.A. Times, 10-21-01)

(To the Editor, L.A. Times)

We seem to forget that some of this problem is our responsibility. If had not given amnesty to illegal aliens in 1986 we would not have 12 to 14 million illegal aliens that are waiting it out till amnesty comes again. And if we give amnesty in 2002 by 2010 we will have 30 to 40 million unemployed illegal aliens waiting for the next one.

When the next election comes around we should demand that our elected officials show more foresight and common sense and not get us in this mess in the first place.

I also wonder what is going to happen when this illegal alien unemployment problem effects a large number of them. The point is the very nature of illegal immigration is that people who do not play by the rules and obey the laws of a country make it here in the first place. If they break our laws just to get a higher paying job in this country what will they do when they have no jobs and have run out of money. Breaking more laws would come easier would it not? Do not be surprised if the crime rate goes up before this is all over with.
