VOICE OF CITIZENS TOGETHER TO PROTEST FOX VISIT

3/20/02

SHERMAN OAKS -- Voice of Citizens Together (VCT), the largest immigration reform group in Los Angeles County, will join with Orange County-based California Coalition for Immigration Reform, to protest the visit to California by Mexican President Vicente Fox. The protests will be held at two locations on Thursday, March 22; Century City and Santa Ana. According to VCT president Glenn Spencer, Vicente Fox is supporting unlimited illegal immigration into California at a time when the state does not have enough electricity for those already here. "The blackouts we are seeing in California wouldn't be happening if our government had enforced our immigration laws and if Governor Gray Davis had not killed Proposition 187." Spencer said. "We are facing a social catastrophe and possible economic meltdown because of an unholy alliance between the Governor of California and the President of Mexico," Spencer said.

Recent census data show illegal immigration is twice earlier estimates. "California is full. We have millions of illegal aliens filling our schools, jamming our freeways and using our energy, and we could well be facing an economic meltdown on top of the power crisis," he said. California Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill warned recently that losses in the stock market could wipe out state tax revenues.

Spencer claims that the problem was made worse when Gov. Davis killed Proposition 187 in 1998. "Davis made a deal with Mexican President Zedillo to thwart the will of the people and now we are paying the price." "Now Vicente Fox comes along and calls for open borders and legalizing drugs. That does it, " he said.

"On top of all that," Spencer said, "Davis won,t let energy prices force conservation because there are so many poor people who would have to go without." "This is a double whammy," he said.

The coalition will protest in front of the Century Plaza Hotel at noon on Thursday and in front of the Mexican/California Trade Center in Santa Ana at 5 pm. "Gray Davis and Vicente Fox are going to tout NAFTA but the truth be known, it is a disaster for Mexico and California," Spencer said. Spencer says NAFTA has not helped the Mexican people. "All it has done is create an environmental and social disaster along our border."

According to Spencer, Vicente Fox is continuing a long tradition of Mexican presidents who back the wholesale invasion of the California. "They even have a word for it," Spencer said, "They call it la Reconquista. And now the Fox is visiting the henhouse." For more information, see VCT's Web page, http://www.americanpatrol.com.
