REFORM PARTY CALLS HALT TO IMMIGRATION
November 29, 2001
Tucson, Arizona -- In a statement today Gerry Moan, Chairman of the Reform Party USA, founded by Ross Perot, encouraged all Americans to sign the party's petition on immigration. "We urge Congress to do the work the Constitution commissioned it to do: provide for the common defense. Our forces are impressive on the international front, but what are we doing in our own back yard to protect our security other than confiscating sewing scissors from little old ladies on airplanes? The truth is," he added, "both parties are petrified that they will lose votes from the growing Hispanic population. Their inability to act is not about our security. It's about their re-elections."
Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) said, "The U.S. can bomb Afghanistan to dust but terrorism will remain. In some bizarre thought process understood only in Washington, D.C., the possibility of tightening up immigration laws paralyzes most politicians."
The RPUSA petition calls for: 1) a 5-year moratorium on immigration until the INS is re-organized; 2) a ban on visas to Muslims until the U.S. Attorney General can certify that all known terrorist networks have been dismantled and destroyed; and, 3) finding and deporting the 300,000 illegal aliens now residing within U.S. borders.
K.C. McAlpin, Reform Party Immigration Spokesperson and author of the petition, said, "The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has catastrophically failed in its mission to protect the American people. No American is safe until our borders are reasonably secure against infiltration by terrorists, criminals and illegal aliens."
