E-Mail to the Tea Party folks

February 8, 2010

Tea Party Coordinators,

We have supported the Tea Party concept and mission from the beginning. However, it appears that the focus is trending toward celebrity rather than substance. While the speeches and sound bytes seem to excite the crowds, it is the actions that interest us.

We are now concerned about which candidates the Tea Party will support and what issues will be deemed non-negoiatable in terms of candidate positions and qualifications.

We understand that the recent Nashville convention was organized by, how shall I say it, a competing interest? We were not as impressed by this show as much as most apparently were. We think the blind adulation of Sarah Palin has the ability to blur the recognition of critical issues, and integrate GOP influence beyond our acceptance.

Illegal immigration is a HUGE issue in Arizona, and it should be a huge issue nationwide, but we aren't hearing anything about it from the Tea Party. On the contrary, Sarah Palin is known to support amnesty and will soon be helping John McCain's re-election bid. This is absolutely unacceptable to us and many Arizonans.

Any discussion about national issues affecting the future of our country which doesn't address illegal immigration is nothing more than the usual political rhetoric. Any discussion about out of control spending which doesn't include the cost of illegal immigration is meaningless. Yet we don't hear any mention of this in terms of Tea Party candidate priorities.

My questions to you are, will the Tea Party strongly, publicly, and financially support JD Hayworth in his effort to unseat John McCain? Do you understand that a large majority of Arizonans oppose any amnesty legislation (by any other name) prior to complete border security, and that McCain is truly vulnerable?  Do you understand that a Tea Party sponsored Hayworth victory is achievable and would be an indescribable power boost to the party?

Please let us know where you stand. We don't claim to have enormous influence, but we are do have a meaningful network, and we see the Arizona Senate race as our number one priority. Adding 20 million illegal aliens to our already bankrupt entitlement programs is not an option, and McCain will surely make it happen. We're going to fight it tooth and nail, and we don't mind a fight.

Pale Rider,
