Slaughter moves to Guerrero

El Sur  (Acapulco, Guerrero)  5/4/08

Sixty to seventy killers dressed in "AFI" (Mex. Fed. Inv. Agency) arrived in a convoy of ten vehicles at the house of Rogaciano Alba in Petatlan, state of Guerrero. Alba is the ex-mayor of Petatlan and was also president of Guerrero's Regional Cattlemen's Union. But he has also been rumored to have links with narcotraffic.

Then, some twenty four hours after the execution of seven men in a hotel in Iguala, Guerrero, the killers opened fire on Alba's house and killed thirteen persons including some of Alba's family and employees. Alba was not home at the time. (Our report of 5/3/08 relates. Petatlan is on the coast, halfway between Acapulco & Zihuatenejo, Guerrero)

El Diario  (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua)  5/4/08

Vehicle theft set a new record in Juarez for the third consecutive month: 1,234 cases were reported, or 41 stolen vehicles per day, bringing the year's total to 3,227.

On Friday night in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, a "heavy caliber" car-to-car gunfire assault killed a lawyer, his wife and a third adult and left the dead couple's minor daughter gravely wounded.
(Casas Grandes is some 125 mi. SW of Ciudad Juarez as the crow flies)

Frontera  (Tijuana, Baja Calif.)  5/4/08

In the Colonia Libertad section of town
(note: east side of the San Ysidro Port of Entry and just south of the border) Mex. military seized a couple of AR15 rifles, three radios with the city police frequency, several vehicles, retail quantities of crystal, marihuana and cocaine plus a couple of hundred rounds of ammo. And in the El Refugio section of Tijuana the body of a man was found inside a vehicle and wrapped in a blanket (note: this is a typical sign that an execution has been committed); the vehicle was left parked in front of a children's playground .

Norte (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua) 5/4/08

The lifeless bodies of three men were found Friday night and into Saturday morning on different streets in Juarez. All evidenced signs of stabbings, beatings and/or shootings.

(Note: the correct source for yesterday's  "Uncontrollable slaughter" op/column was "a.b.c." ("Grupo Miled"), a Mexico City paper,  rather than "Milenio".
Also, the junction of the Intn'tl. Labor Day (May 1st) and 5th. of May has made for an extended holiday weekend throughout Mexico. )
