Walter Moore for Mayor of Los Angeles
Villaraigosa Doublethink Du Jour and Rally Reminder
By Walter Moore -- October 8, 2008 (American Patrol posted October 9, 2008)
Remember when you were growing up, and you read George Orwell's 1984? Remember "doublethink?" That was the term Orwell made up for "holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them."
Here is why I mention it:
Yesterday, according to the Daily News, Villaraigosa told the United Chambers of Commerce that "he will not push for any new taxes or fees in the coming city budgets," and said "we have raised the trash fee as much as we can and this is not the time to seek any other increases."
Then, the paper says, "The mayor also used the appearance as a way to make an appeal for Measure R, the half-percent sales-tax increase on the Nov. 4 ballot for transportation projects."
So, he won't push for any tax increases, but he pushes for a tax increase.
Is he really that stupid, or does he just think we are?
Either way, he's got to go.
Speaking of going, don't forget: our next rally is Tuesday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodland Hills Marriott, 21850 Oxnard Street, Woodland Hills, 91367. You can hear Doug McIntyre and Kevin James, get a yard sign to show your neighbors what good taste you have, pick up some bumper stickers, and add your autograph to the petition to put Jamiel's Law on the ballot. And you can donate then, but why wait, after all? Click here to contribute.
Finally, let me thank those of you who have already contributed, because I am way behind in sending out my "thank you" postcards. I REALLY appreciate your TAKING ACTION to save America's second-biggest city. Your contributions are what have enabled us to spread the word, to buy radio ads, bumper stickers and yard signs to get the word out. Heaven knows the local papers and TV stations aren't going to help us. It's up to us to spread the word ourselves. Complaining isn't enough. It takes dollars to get change.
