Open Borders Cry Babies to Protest Proposed 287(g) in New York

April 18, 2008

NY Assemblyman Greg Ball (R-Carmel) just introduced A-10593, a Bill to require 287(g) protection in New York State, ban sanctuary cities within the state, deport criminal aliens in our prisons, and require vendors who do business with New York to use the E-verify system.

This Saturday (April 19, 2008) 9/11 Families for a Secure America, and Assemblyman Ball are hosting a 287(g) seminar for invited members of the local Law Enforcement community.

We just learned that Open Borders groups have planned their own meeting next door to ours to protest 287(g).

In the recent past, we've seen mob tactics used by radical Open Border groups in this region used to disrupt our meetings. We've asked the uncooperative local Sheriff to attend the 287g seminar (he has declined) and we've asked him to please provide security for those attending the 287(g) seminar.

A copy of our letter to Sheriff Smith is attached (see below).

Sheriff Smith, as you are aware, on Saturday April 19 our organization is co-hosting as event with Assemblyman Greg Ball in support of law enforcement measures aimed at curbing crimes committed by illegal aliens. Assemblyman Ball has just introduced The New York State Criminal Illegal Alien Deportation and Legal Hiring Act (Bill Number 10593). A major component of this bill is the mandatory provision that all New York State police jurisdictions enter into a 287(g) agreement with DHS.

I’m writing you today, not in an attempt to persuade you to attend; although you have been invited, but to alert you to the fact that a group named the Hudson Valley Coalition for Immigration and others opposed to enforcement of federal immigration law have scheduled a meeting at the same time and venue as our public forum is scheduled. To make matters worse, this organization has posted on their blog pages the full attendee list of those law enforcement agencies and elected officials who will be in attendance.

Sheriff Smith, having spoken at events in Harrisburg, PA, Morristown, NJ, Suffern, NY and working with colleagues who have spoken in Los Angeles,  Illinois and Michigan, we have witnessed the violent protests and other disruptive tactics the opposition brings to these events. Scheduling two events in the same venue at the same time brings the real possibility of trouble.

I’m writing you today, as both these events are being held in your county, in order to ensure that you’re aware of this development and to ask that your department provide the types of protective measures that allows both these events to proceed without incident. As members of other police jurisdictions and elected officials from throughout the state will be present, not having any type of Putnam County Sheriff’s presence would be both professionally and personally embarrassing to you.

I can be reached directly at 914-255-0716.

                                                  Very Respectfully,
