Re: IDs All Around -- Washington Post - 10/23/01

I certainly agree with Richard Cohen's article, "Who Am I," which advocates the need for a national ID card. At present, there are at least 9 million illegals living in the U.S. How many of these people are potential terrorists? There's no telling. If only one-tenth of one percent were dangerous criminals or would do harm to society, it would amount to 90,000 people! How secure can we feel with this number of potential "evil-doers?" Such a system need not be intrusive, cumbersome or expensive we use this technology every day at the supermarket and everywhere credit cards are used. Why not use it to protect our identity and, at the same time, increase the security of the country?
