DAVIS THE MERCIFUL

The 1,500 state employees that are in the process of receiving pink slips as a part of Governor Davis' budget balancing program must feel goofy. The State of California pays billions dollars a year for educating kids of illegal aliens (instead of turning them and their parents to the INS for the initiation of deportation proceedings), and Governor Davis, sensitive to their needs, seems to have no doubt that the money for that noble cause must be found in the state coffers, but when it comes to legal residents, they can just be laid off.
Thanks a lot, Governor Davis, for being such a humanly merciful steward.
