================================================Fellow Citizen,
When Ronald Reagan first ran for Governor of California, the primary was between Reagan, the conservative, and George Christopher, a well-to-do businessman who was branded the moderate.
Back then, as today, the story line was that a conservative could win a Primary Election in California but never the General Election.
And back then, Reagan was sent an open letter by three Republican legislators who asked him to rise above personal ambition, drop out of the race and get behind Christopher for the good of the Party.
Reagan declined. The rest is history. Ronald Reagan proved then as we can prove today, that a conservative Republican can win a statewide California Election.
Did Reagan stay in because of blind personal ambition? I think not!
I believe Ronald Reagan felt it would be wrong to walk away from his principles and from those who believed as he did in those same principles.
And that is exactly the same reason why I am in this race to the end!
As I write you today, there are thousands of individuals around California and even across our great nation who have sent small and medium contributions to my campaign.
Because of you, we have already raised over $1.6 million.
This election is far from over! Recently the Sacramento Municipal Court ruled that Cruz Bustamante illegally transferred $4 million dollars in contributions and ordered those contributions returned.
This is a disastrous, perhaps even fatal hit to his campaign since he must now replace the money he has spent with any funds left in his Gubernatorial account as well as stop all of his commercials on proposition 54, a major component of his campaign.
This has only heightened the Democrats' desperation to get me out of the race so they can focus their venomous attack ads on Arnold Schwarzenegger. They know, as do you, that I am the only Republican candidate immune to those attacks.
Add to that"I am gaining ground every day in the polls!
Folks, we can do this, and every day that passes proves that case more and more. But we must get our message out in the Los Angeles media market.
