Dear Friends:
This is the first of an on-going series of Recall 2003 Election campaign updates that I will be posting on the American Patrol website. Postings could occur at anytime if circumstances warrant so check in frequently.
I am very grateful to Glenn for his generous offer.
Even though I will have a website operating by next week, (www.Guzzardi4Gov.com or www.GuzzardiForGov.com) being able to post my thoughts and opinions instantly on www.americanpatrol.com will be invaluable over the next few weeks.
As we all know, the major California newspapers are going to do everything possible to keep illegal immigration out of the October 7th election. Our job is to expose the mainstream media at every turn for its dereliction of duty. Newspapers have a professional obligation to report on major issues. Let's keep their feet to the fire.
To wit, on Wednesday, August 6th, San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Alex Roth called to ask me why I was a candidate. We spoke for nearly a half-hour. I told Roth I thought it is imperarative to discuss immigration issues openly and honestly in this and all future California elections. I told Roth that, in my opinion, of the several hundred candidates, I was the only one with a platform of importance to all Californians. And I identified myself as the only candidate ready and willing to talk about the tough subjects. Without question, Roth understood what I said.
But when Roth's story, "The Race is truly wide open" (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/recall/20030808-9999_1n8longshot.html) appeared on August 8th, my name was not mentioned. Instead, Roth wrote about candidates Michael Jackson (ha, ha!), an El Cajon golf pro and a PTA volunteer.
Wrote Roth, "there are dozens of potential candidates whose name recognition doesn't extend much beyond their families."
In my case, however, that isn't true. For the millions of Californians who are concerned about the impact of illegal immigration and have been reading my columns on VDARE.COM and posted on AMERICANPATROL.COM, the name "Joe Guzzardi" is readily recognizable. I don't view my quest to become Governor as frivolous. I see it as an opportunity to force a discussion about immigration to the forefront during the next eight weeks.
All of us working together can put considerable pressure on the San Diego Union Tribune and its politically correct kindred spirits the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee to give all of the candidates a voice.
Roth, however, may be a lost cause. I e-mailed him this message:Hey Alex:
What happened? I looked in vain for my name. Seems to me that I had something to say that those quoted in your story did not---a platform that is of concern to all who live in California.
Did your editors object? I did a three years study (available on-line) about how the major newspapers across America are loath to write in a fair and balanced way about the negative consequences of immigration in our society. Papers are willing to write the positive, however.
So I would not in the least be surprised if your editors took out anything pertaining to the subject.
Thanks anyway for calling me and interviewing me. Best wishes.
