Sierra Vista,
Arizona (ABP) July 24, 2003 -- American
Border Patrol announced today that it has begun distributing
electronic pagers that alert ABP management and selected citizens
when ABPs "GroundHawk" sensors are triggered. The first
Border Beepers will be issued to citizens living in the canyons
of the Huachuca Mountains. When a sensor in a canyon is triggered,
residents living near that sensor will be alerted what sensor
went off, the direction of the travelers and the number of suspected
border intruders. ABP expects to be distributing "Border
Beepers" to ranchers all along the U.S./Mexico border in
the next few months. |
