Palominas,
Arizona (ABP
- 4/13/03) The San
Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area, a rare remnant
of what was once an extensive network of similar riparian systems
throughout the Southwest, was heavily damaged Sunday when a fire
raced from the Mexican border to Arizona State Route 92. The
fire started at a popular illegal alien crossing point near what
locals call The Corrals [see map]. Critics
of border enforcement say this fire is another cost of the failure
of the government to stop illegal immigration.
