Border Fire Ravages
San Pedro Riparian Area
Fire Starts at Popular Illegal Alien Crossing Point

Location shown is 100' north of the border fence and is the southernmost extent of the fire. A brisk south wind was blowing at the time of this fire.
Palominas, Arizona (ABP - 4/13/03) The San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area, a rare remnant of what was once an extensive network of similar riparian systems throughout the Southwest, was heavily damaged Sunday when a fire raced from the Mexican border to Arizona State Route 92. The fire started at a popular illegal alien crossing point near what locals call The Corrals [see map]. Critics of border enforcement say this fire is another cost of the failure of the government to stop illegal immigration.
