poised to give licenses to illegal aliens
After months of negotiations following
the Sept. 11 attacks, the California Legislature on Tuesday sent
Gov. Gray Davis a measure that would allow undocumented
immigrants to obtain state driver's licenses. -- The driver's
license bill, AB 60 by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo actually cleared
the Legislature last year with strong backing from Latino advocacy
groups, but lawmakers pulled it back from the governor's desk
after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks raised new safety questions.
