Blast from bushes killed ranger
National Park Service Ranger Kris Eggle was rushing toward a gunman hidden in bushes, just north of the Mexican border, when a burst of gunfire from the bushes cut him down, witnesses and officials said. -- American officials said Saturday that it was possible the gunman was shot by Mexican or American officers, but witnesses in this rural village two miles east of Lukeville said Mexican officers did the shooting. Speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, three residents said they saw only Mexican officers fire on the gunman, from the Mexican side. [We haven't seen this reported in the N.Y. Times, L.A. Times, Washington Post, etc.]
