AmericanPatrol.com Ad Focuses on Villaraigosa Ties to Mexico

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., May 3, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- With a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Daily news this Sunday, May 6, AmericanPatrol.com, a project of Voice of Citizens Together, will launch a campaign to inform Los Angeles voters of mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa's close ties to the Mexican government and bias toward the Latino community, including illegal aliens. The Sunday Daily News ad leads with the headline, ``Does Los Angeles Need a Mayor Who Reports to Mexico City?''

The ad includes a reproduction of the front page of the Los Angeles Times of August 4, 1999, whereon Villaraigosa is shown alongside Mexican President Zedillo applauding the demise of Proposition 187, the popular ballot initiative designed to end taxpayer funding for illegal aliens that was passed by 60% of California voters in 1994. According to AmericanPatrol.com president, Glenn Spencer, the ad raises serious questions about the loyalty of Villaraigosa to all Americans. ``Do we need a mayor whose public record strongly suggests that his primary loyalty is to an ethnic group, including illegal aliens, rather than all Americans?'' Spencer asked.

AmericanPatrol.com, which is not connected in any way to the Hahn campaign, has been running full-page ads in the Los Angeles area for seven years. ``For ten years our issue has been illegal immigration,'' Spencer said, ``and right now, Mr. Villaraigosa is the number one advocate for illegal aliens in America.'' The ad shows a photo of Villaraigosa at a rally for illegal alien amnesty held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on June 10, 2000, attended by 20,000 people.

The ad also documents close ties between Villaraigosa and the Aztlan movement which calls for the ``liberation'' of the American Southwest and Chicano ``self-determination.'' ``Mr. Villaraigosa was chairman of Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Azltan (MEChA) while at UCLA and, according to our research, he has never repudiated their separatists goals.''

``Villaraigosa, Gov. Gray Davis, and the President of Mexico, joined to keep Proposition 187 away from the U.S. Supreme Court because they were afraid it would be found constitutional,'' Spencer said. ``Does Los Angeles really need a mayor who thwarts the will of the people?'' he asked.

The ad was paid for by donations from hundreds of AmericanPatrol.com supporters, many over the Internet.
