"I am not going to let
Mexico be discriminated against," Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas,
vowed during floor debate this afternoon. "I don't think
it is right. I don't think it is fair." The
Senate Republican leader, Trent Lott of Mississippi, has described
the bill as "anti-Mexican" and "anti-Hispanic."
