PRESS CONFERENCE
"We want them to eventually become U.S. citizens.
We want to regularize this. We want to make it less dangerous,
less threatening, and to let them become citizens if that is
where your destiny takes you. And so we are looking at ways that
both of us can work together to solve this problem. We are very
pleased that the Mexicans have said clearly that this is something
both of us have to work on. It is not just an American problem.
"I will be discussing possible recommendations
with Foreign Minister Castañeda
on the ninth of August."

"Our common border is no longer a line that divides
us, but a region that unites our nations, reflecting
our common aspirations, values and culture," said
Colin Powell last Tuesday in Washington at his first news conference
as secretary of state, held jointly with the new Mexican foreign
minister, Jorge
Casteneda.
American Patrol, July 18, 2001
"Mexico is one of the most corrupt nations on earth,"
said Glenn Spencer of American
Patrol, " It has a tradition of lying and of little respect
for education, the law or science. Mexico and the United States
could not be more different. We do not share common values or
a common culture. Any attempt to merge the two nations will be
catastrophic for America. America is a sovereign state and can
determine its immigration policies unilaterally. Colin Powell
should be fired."
