TIMES MAKES DESPERATE LEGAL MOVE
July 3
LOS ANGELES -- (VCT) The Los Angeles Times filed a motion in Los Angeles Superior Court today to disqualify Judge Alan G. Buckner from hearing a case filed by Voice of Citizens Together, parent of American Patrol. The motion was based on an assertion by the Times that judge Buckner would be biased against the newspaper in his handling of the case which involves the cancellation by the Los Angeles Daily News of an ad due to threats by the Times. (See a copy of the complaint). A ruling on the motion is expected within two weeks.

Some legal experts say this is an act of desperation by the Times since it can be seen by some jurists as an insult to the Superior Court system. At the same hearing, judge Buckner gave the Daily News an extension until August 4 to answer the original VCT complaint.
