Subject: [Fwd: Immigration Restriction Should Be Judged on the Merits]Mr. Gelfand:
Following is my letter responding to a hateful opinion piece your paper ran, i.e. "The organization is FAIR, but its immigration views aren't." It accuses several leaders in the immigration reform movement of the most racist remarks and says nothing about the real effects of massive, decades-long immigration to America's environment, economy and social cohesion.
I notice that the author, Kathleen Moccio, is an attorney. Is she perhaps an immigration attorney? Her office is listed by a pro-immigration website:
http://www.windowstochina.com/Immigration/MN.htm
If she does indeed do immigration law, her remarks are not unbiased and could be more accurately understood as free advertising for her practice.
Is this a common journalistic custom today -- to hide the potential financial gain which may result from the publication of an opinion? Or does the Star-Tribune regard political correctness around immigration as taking precedence over normal standards of revealing relevant facts about authors?
As reader representative, you should recommend that the editorial page run an opinion written by the one of the persons so unjustly accused by Ms. Moccia.

The webmaster notes that Moccio is the past chair of the Minnesota/Dakota Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
