Dear Forum (L.A. Daily News):

This is in reference to a proposed study by Councilman Dennis Zine for a hiring center for illegal aliens, also known as day laborers. Mr. Zine mentions that loitering day laborers have become a public problem. There is no study necessary to solve this problem. We have immigration and labor laws that are being violated and the City of Los Angeles is the perpetrator. What the City Council should be doing is revoke Special order #40 and back the Immigration and Naturalization Services to round up illegal aliens and deport them. We are at war and we have to enforce out laws.

Council members tell us with a straight face that these hiring centers will be funded with federal funds. They tell us that federal funding is Government money. Excuse me, but isn't that OUR money that we are paying in taxes?

The City of Los Angeles sponsors hiring centers for illegal aliens. They grant contracts to private individuals who "run" the centers. These individuals have a heck of a time keeping the men in the premise. These men stay outside around a one or two block perimeter in order to intercept potential employers before they reach the hiring center. As a result, very few workers get hired from the center itself and the end result is the same. Men are still loitering outside.

I think this is a rip off to the taxpayers. Over of $100,000 of federal taxes will be spent, not to mention the salaries that the city pays to the folks that run the centers. How do I know all this? I recently attended a "hiring center" meeting in Cindy Misciskowski's district.
