63 Members Sign Hayworth Letter Urging President Bush to Uphold Immigration Laws
Sixty-three House Republicans co-signed a letter by Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) urging President Bush to support an immigration policy with Mexico that "secures our borders, draws a bright line between legal and illegal aliens, and rejects any and all forms of amnesty." (Visit Rep. Hayworth's web site to read the letter.)
The letter was sent to the White House last Wednesday in anticipation of a meeting later this month in Texas between President Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox to resume talks on immigration policy that were interrupted by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The following principles were outlined as essential to the formulation of immigration policy: securing borders against terrorists, drug smugglers and illegal aliens; preventing the balkanization of the U.S. while helping documented newcomers assimilate; vigorously enforcing all immigration laws; preventing American workers from being undercut by exploited, unskilled, illegal aliens, and rejecting all forms of amnesty.
The letter also called on President Bush to make clear to President Fox that we expect Mexico to be an integral part in this effort. "For far too long, Mexico has acted more as an accomplice in illegal immigration than a partner in preventing it," the letter says.
Please check the list below to see if your representatives co-signed Rep. Hayworth's letter. If so, please call and thank them for their commitment to upholding and enforcing our immigration laws. Visit the elected officials section of our web site for contact information.
