CBP Border Patrol Identifies Possible Drug Tunnel

Nogales, AZ -- On October 27, 2005, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Nogales Border Patrol Station uncovered a tunnel in downtown Nogales, AZ.

Late yesterday, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Nogales Station uniformed Bike Patrol were conducting routine patrols along the United States Mexico Border on International Street. As the agents rode along the International Boundary Fence east of the DeConcini Port of Entry, they discovered that a large piece of pavement had collapsed into the street. The agents took a closer look and discovered the beginnings of a new tunnel.

The tunnel appears to have been recently created and runs only six feet into the U.S. It is approximately three feet under the city street and about three feet by three feet wide. No arrests were made in connection with this apprehension.

The tunnel was filled by the City of Nogales at 1:30 pm today.
