Border Patrol Takes Another Sex Offender off the Streets

Tucson, AZ - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Nogales Border Patrol Station apprehended a convicted sex offender identified as a 38 year-old illegal alien from El Salvador.

On June 22, at approximately 11:00 A.M., agents encountered Mercedez Noyola-Sanchez after he illegally entered the United States by jumping the fence about three miles east of Nogales, Arizona. Noyola was arrested and transported to the Nogales Border Patrol Station for processing. At the Station, the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) revealed that Noyola had been convicted in Los Angeles, CA in 1990 for felony "Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child Under age 14". Noyola was Ordered Removed from the United States as a result of his conviction and was subsequently removed to El Salvador in 1991. Noyola is currently being held in federal custody on a felony charge of "Re-entry of an Aggravated Felon". For the Fiscal Year 2005, Border Patrol Agents in the Tucson Sector have arrested 25,544 illegal aliens who have had criminal records in the United States. Of those, 261 have been for sexually related offenses.
