Students head back to school amid controversy of recouping costs of educating illegals

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Teachers returning to Orange County schools this week amid a heated, racially charged debate over billing the government for the cost of educating illegal immigrants say that beneath the politics is the real problem: classroom overcrowding.

Board members of the Anaheim Union High School District last month approved a resolution asking the Immigration and Naturalization Service to count the number of illegal immigrants who attend the district schools in an effort to recoup money educating the students.
