Joe Guzzardi for Governor of California
On Thursday, July 24th, 2003, I filed California forms 501 and 401 to place my name on the Recall Election ballot for Governor of California. Today, I filed my declaration of candidacy. The election date, as of today, is October 7th.
I believe that with a vigorous Internet campaign and word of mouth I can mount a significant challenge to the status quo regarding both legal and illegal immigration. At a minimum, I believe I can force other candidates to talk about immigration and its impact on California.
Through 15 years of column writing, I have "met" hundreds of disgusted Californians--teachers, nurses, police officers, D/As, construction workers, border patrol agents. Each of them has equally disgusted friends and associates. They--like us-- all want immigration reduction immediately.
As you know, no politician on a state, federal or local level has talked about immigration since Pete Wilson nearly 10 years ago. Among those who have most specifically not mentioned it are Gray Davis, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Matt Fong, Tom Campbell, Michael Huffington, James Hahn, Willie Brown and countless others. With a ground swell of enthusiasm from you, we can force them to talk about the tough subjects.
And although I know this sounds far-fetched, under certain ideal circumstances, I make a strong showing. I am very well known throughout California for my stance on immigration reduction. If the voter turn-out is very, very low (probable), the list of candidates high (probable) and my exposure high (possible), I might do very well indeed.
I believe that no one in California wants to vote for Richard Riordan, Bill Simon, Darrell Issa, etc. Accordingly, a fresh face with the moxie to talk tough about immigration might generate significant support.
Could I ask each of you to circulate this e-mail to your concerned friends---even if you think I certainly would have contacted that individual? I have no staff and no volunteers at this moment so I appreciate your help.
I will be issuing regular e-mail updates and will have a website ready around August 7th.
In the meantime, contributions large and small are gratefully accepted at:
