Dear Mr. Lewis: Re: "Matricula Consular"
[Link added by AmericanPatrol.com]I'm sure you're aware that there's a good deal of controversy and discussion about an I.D. card known as the "Matricula Consular". This document is currently being issued by Mexican consulates across our nation to segments of its citizens residing in this country. The overwhelming number of recipients of the Matricula Consular are illegal immigrants.
With this in mind the question arises as to why any American business would accept such a document as a means of assisting people who've criminally breached the borders of our nation? Another way of looking at this is to ask if you believe that assisting illegal immigrants to remain here illegally is consistent with, - - "The very reason Bank of America exists in the first place is to help make communities stronger"? With all due respect, illegal immigrants aren't making communities stronger, in fact, just the opposite.
The 3.8 million illegal immigrants here in California are costing taxpayers nearly $6 billion annually. Los Angeles County's underground cash economy is a fiscal disaster, with an estimated 28% of the workforce (mostly illegal immigrants) paid in cash, thus depriving the safety net of an estimated $1.1 billion annually. L.A. County has just voted to close 16 community clinics, and reduced by 25% funding for its network of private clinics partnering with the County. In addition to this, within the last decade, 50 emergency rooms and 17 trauma centers throughout Southern California have closed their doors, all because they couldn't afford to keep them open because of the exponentially increasing numbers of uninsured patients that include critical-masses of illegal immigrants.
Southern California in particular has become a Mecca for Mexican and other alien criminals, who made up 23 percent of County inmates in 2000, the last year for which there are statistics. That percentage has doubled over the last decade, costing county taxpayers more than $150 million annually.
However unintentional B of A's reason(s) for accepting the "Matricula Consular" may have been, there's no getting away from the reality that your bank is aiding and abetting a very serious domestic problem, and to a certain extent these are acts of disloyalty toward the United States of America.
I would hope that upon reflection, the Bank of America will reconsider accepting a document primarily intended by the Government of Mexico to smokescreen the illegal presence of millions of its citizens. An illegal presence that's repudiated by our laws, by our people, and by the facts.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott
