Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson
12/29/01
Mayor Anderson:
I am dismayed and angered at your reaction to the arrest of a large number of illegal aliens at your airport a few days ago.
Your statement that federal immigration policy is "hypocritical" holds some water, however.
The present 'policy' of INS is hypocritical, but the law is clear and it is the law that you are being paid to uphold.
Because of people like you, INS has been pressured into ignoring our Employer Sanction law, which clearly makes it a crime to hire anyone who is in this country illegally.
In the past, whenever INS found someone who was using illegal alien labor and tried to punish him for so doing, the local politicians (just like you) exploded into action, insisting that INS leave them alone, as the illegals were needed to sustain the economy. (Read: "Increase the profits of your local employers and to Hell with the welfare of the citizens whose jobs the illegals were taking). You see, if you were doing the job you have been elected to do, to serve and protect the welfare of the citizens of your city and NO ONE ELSE, you would be doing everything you could to insure that every illegal alien, every man, woman and child who is in this country illegally, would be found and returned to their country of origin, as our law dictates.
Compassion may very well be the underlying motive in your actions but you were not voted into office to show compassion for illegal aliens, who committed a criminal act by sneaking into this country, only for the legal citizens of your city.
Your use of the term "Economic Migrants", when referring to illegal aliens (which is what they are, pure and simple), would be humorous if it weren't blatantly anti-American.
Frankly, I think that you should face criminal charges if you pursue your obvious quest to aid and abet these illegals and to warn them beforehand so that they might obtain "other, less sensitive jobs", which is just another way of saying "Stay hidden, so that you won't be deported".
One thing is clear: You don't care a whit about the sovereignty of America and, if I were a Salt Lake City resident, I would be doing everything possible to have you removed from office.
With all due disrespect, I am,
Richard H.
