Action Alert!
From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
Date: Monday 6DEC04 11:45 a.m. (American Patrol Posted 1020 am PST)ASAP phone your Rep to meet with 9/11 families and keep opposing 9/11 bill
Top of the week, friends,
Please call your U.S. Representative immediately regarding the 9/11 bill we've been addressing all fall.
Ask him/her to meet with 9/11 families this afternoon before deciding how to vote on the bill. The families oppose the bill because it allows states to issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens.
As I write this, Congress is returning to Washington for a lame-duck session to mop up some appropriations matters and, perhaps, to take up the gutted 9/11 bill.
It is essential that they continue to feel the pressure from you.

2. Meet 9/11 families this afternoon in the Cannon House Office Building
Rosemary Jenks (our director of government relations) is with leaders of the 9/11 Families for a Secure America right now and headed over to the Cannon House Office Building.
The family leaders will be in Cannon Room 122 from 1-3 p.m. this afternoon.
They will be available to talk to any media, Members of Congress and congressional staff.
They will be talking about how the 9/11 Response Bill should be allowed to die in this session so it can be revived by the new Congress in January and include essential immigration safeguards, such as those relating to driver's licenses for illegal aliens
3. Message to your Representative
Ask if their office is aware that the 9/11 Families for Secure America are in the Cannon building this afternoon. If not, give them the info.
Tell them you hope a staff member will go over to meet with them and hear their very deep concerns about the 9/11 bill as it came out of the Conference Committee.
Tell them that you stand four-square with this LARGEST of 9/11 families groups in opposition to any bill that does NOT include license and other identification safeguards.
4. If you call after 3 p.m.
If you don't get this in time to call about meeting the families, please call anyway. In this case, just mention that the families were in the Cannon Buiding earlier today and that you hope the Congressman/woman will vote according to the wishes of those 9/11 families to include immigration safeguards.
You might mention that you are calling in behalf of the 9/11 Families for a Secure America.
Read the statement below and use one or two of the points in that statement.

We, the members of 9/11 Families for a Secure America, representing the families of three hundred of the victims of 9/11, strongly urge rejection of the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act as it has been reported out of the House-Senate Conference Committee.
Because Senate negotiators failed to compromise in any meaningful way, the conference report lacks nearly every important border security and secure identity document provision of H.R. 10. The conference report is almost as much of a threat to America,s safety as that which was originally introduced by Senators Collins, Lieberman and McCain.
Their bill guaranteed continuation of the conditions that allowed the 9/11 terrorists to murder our loved ones.
It guaranteed that terrorists would continue to be able to freely enter the United States.
It guaranteed that terrorists could remain here virtually without fear of capture while they plan, finance, rehearse and carry out future attacks.
It guaranteed that they could use worthless "identification worthless "identification documents which are issued by foreign governments for the sole purpose of allowing people to evade U.S. law enforcement.
Finally, despite the fact that the 9/11 terrorists had obtained 63 authentic state-issued driver,s licenses, the Collins-Lieberman-McCain bill guaranteed that future terrorists would be able to continue getting licenses in any State that chooses to grant them.
In nearly every vital respect the conference report fails to improve upon the Senate,s original version. It creates a façade of security, while failing to take the necessary steps to prevent future 9/11s. It is an insult not just to the American people as a whole, but particularly to the memories of our murdered loved ones. The conference report even preserves the current federal policy of recognizing as valid "proof of identity for boarding airplanes licenses from states that issue to any applicant regardless of lack of established identity. This is the ultimate expression of contempt for the 3,000 dead of 9/11.
The report of the 9/11 Commission specifically refers to the 9/11 terrorists, U.S. driver,s licenses as having "assisted them in boarding commercial flights, renting cars, and other necessary activities. It recommends that "[t>he federal government should set standards for the issuance of birth certificates and sources of identification, such as drivers licenses. The staff monograph, "9/11 and Terrorist Travel, states that border security must be made a "cornerstone of national security policy. H.R. 10 addressed these important points; the conference report does not.
We are aware that the very Commissioners who attached their names to this report have been running away from their own document. We are also aware of the intense pressure on House Members because of the intransigence of opponents of border security in the Senate and elsewhere. We ask that Members recognize the essential nature of the border security recommendations and not surrender to the Senate.
As the conference report now stands, it must, out of respect for our murdered relatives and for the safety of our nation, be defeated.
