Wolf, one of American Border Patrol's seven German Shepherds, was injured Wednesday night outside ABP's headquarters. Something apparently aroused him and he forced his way through one of the gates in the security fence. The next morning, Glenn Spencer, head of ABP, went looking for Wolf to supervise the preparation of breakfast, as he always does - but he couldn't be found. Suspecting that Wolf had gotten out of the yard, Spencer checked his front porch - and there was Wolf - waiting to be let in. He had been injured.
Spencer speculated Wolf may have been gored by a Javelina - a wild pig with whom Wolf has had many encounters.
"He's a tough soldier," Spencer said.
