Chertoff Claim Disputed The new border fence near Naco, Arizona, touted by DHS Secretary Chertoff is far from finished. American Border Patrol surveyed the fence yesterday and found that the Granite Construction fence (5.16 miles) had less than 0.4 miles of pedestrian barriers installed. As shown below, west of the Naco Port of Entry, about 9 miles of new pedestrian fencing is under construction. The western most 5.16 miles is being built by Granite Construction Company. (Click here to get a Google Earth file that shows actual photos taken yesterday.) [Note: The Google Earth File is in ".zip" format. Please download it to your computer and extract it.] Even the fence built by the National Guard has many gaps. A Border Patrol Agent on site said that this kind of barrier doesn't work until the entire fence is finished. |
