SHUTTING DOWN HIGHWAY 101?
October 29, 2004
American Border Patrol ran a mission Thursday evening to check out how well the new Border Patrol camera towers were working. Posting a Tac Ops team near the tower, ABP observed activity in the San Pedro River corridor, or what has been called "Highway 101" because of the high volume of illegal alien traffic. ABP watched as the camera was used to track a group of illegal aliens from the Mexican border and across the San Pedro river. The operator called in a helicopter to pin point the location of the intruders. Nearby BP officers moved in and made the apprehension.
"We are pleased to see this action," said Glenn Spencer of ABP. "Without this camera system and the backup helicopter, these intruders would most likely have evaded detection and capture."
