Fence Progress Report
December 18, 2008
American Border Patrol reports that a preliminary analysis of its most recent aerial surveys of the border shows that there are approximately 245 miles of fencing in place along the Mexican border. Since its last survey that ended on October 2, 2008, ABP reports significant progress at the following locations...
- Naco - 5.7 miles of new fence
- Nogales 7.8 miles of new fence
- Yuma - 14 miles of new fence
- Calexico - 22 miles of new fence
- Jacumba - 4 miles of new fence
- Tecate - 4 miles of new fence
In some cases the new fencing replaced old fencing and, to that extent, total fencing along the border was not increased.
The survey does not include fencing added between Douglas Arizona and Brownsville, Texas, estimated to be 20 miles. This section of the fence will be updated as soon as weather conditions permit.
ABP will issue a final survey report, complete with maps, at its January 15, 2009 presentation in Washington, D.C.
The final report will also include estimates of miles of vehicle barriers in place.
