Construction work resumes on border fence at the south end of
the San Pedro Riparian Area. Cottonwood trees in the background
line the San Pedro River. Mexico is to the left. Person next
to pickup truck holding an orange jacket is an
archaeologist who was monitoring construction for evidence
of ancient Indian habitat. Four-foot footings sixty feet apart
suggest plans for a double barrier of some sort. Glenn Spencer asked one of the workers if Granite Construction Company was burying conduit in the footings so the Border Patrol could instrument the fence with sensors. The worker said no. Spencer said it would be a good idea to do so and include pre-wired fiber optic cable. The worker seemed to agree and said it could still be done, but not in their trenches. |
