As reported by American Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection is not flying their lone unmanned aerial vehicle outside the military airspace above Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Speaking at a conference on SBInet in Sierra Vista, Martin Vaughan, of CBP said the DHS expects to receive approval from the FAA to begin flying the Predator B in controlled airspace in the next week or so. Controlled airspace is above 18,000 feet. Vaughan said the full compliment of three Tucson Sector UAVs is not expected to be in place until 2010.
