Internet purchases – lessons learned

October 12, 2009

American Border Patrol purchased a DVR from Brickhouse Security. It didn't work as advertised and Brickhouse refused to make good on the deal, even thought they admitted the recorder did not function as advertised.

Then ABP purchased a ContourHD helmet-mounted camera. It failed after three uses but the seller wouldn't respond to phone calls or e-mail

Finally, ABP purchased a Sony HD Handycam from Best Buy. When we (and Sony) discovered that the hard drive was too sensitive to vibration to function in an aviation environment and they recommended a flash-memory version. ABP returned the original camera to Best Buy and they gladly exchanged it. Lesson learned: Beware of fly-by-night Internet sellers, no matter how slick their Web page appears.
